If you have small children or party members who cannot walk for long distances or at all, you still have options for visiting the parks!
Many parents avoid the challenges of navigating airline requirements for strollers by renting one either directly from Walt Disney World or from one of the off-site vendors who offer their services. Likewise, Electric Conveyance Vehicles (ECVs) and wheelchairs are also available at the parks themselves or from independent contractors. Most travel planners will tell you to plan ahead for both items versus trying to walk up and rent at the parks.
With that said, we’ll outline both the in-park options and offer a few ideas for reserving these items ahead of time from independent resources. You can evaluate the options and choose the one that makes the most sense for your travel party.
Disney World Strollers
You can rent strollers at any of the theme parks and at Disney Springs. The one caveat is that the stroller cannot leave the park. Disney requires a $100 deposit for strollers rented at Disney Springs.
A Single Stroller, recommended for children 50 pounds and less, costs $15 for a single-day or $13 per day for multiple days, which Disney calls “Length of Stay.”
They also offer a Double Stroller for children 100 pounds and less. This one costs $31 for a single day or $27 for Length of Stay.
When you choose a Length of Stay Rental, you’ll pre-pay for the number of days you are visiting. You receive a ticket/receipt which you can show at the stroller rental locations at each park to receive your stroller for the day.
If you are Park Hopping, you’ll return your stroller at your first park as you leave. Then, when you enter the new park, you can present your receipt at that stroller rental to pick up your new stroller.
As you can probably see, there are quite a few complexities to renting strollers within the park, so you may want to consider a private stroller rental company so that you can have the stroller with you for the entire visit. You’ll also have access to better variety and potentially more comfortable strollers for your kids.
Disney World ECVs
As is the case with strollers, you can rent ECVs at all four theme parks, the water parks, and Disney Springs. And similar to stroller rentals, you cannot remove the ECV from the location where it was rented. You should also know that ECV rentals at the parks and Disney Springs are subject to availability, meaning that they can and do sell out.
At the theme parks, you can rent ECVs for $65 per day, with a refundable $20 deposit required. For the water parks and Disney Springs, you’ll pay $65 per day along with a $100 refundable deposit.
Length of Stay rentals are NOT available for ECVs. Guests must be 18 or older to rent and operate an ECV, and a photo ID is required as well.
Again, given the constraints and limited availability, you should consider renting from an independent contractor to ensure you have the device you need for your entire stay.
Disney World Wheelchairs
If you’re okay with going basic (or need a mobility device for someone under 18), you can rent wheelchairs at the theme parks, the water parks, and Disney Springs.
The cost is $12 per day at all locations, but you CAN purchase a Length of Stay option to be able to pick up a wheelchair at any park or Disney Springs as you move throughout the Disney World Campus. At the water parks and Disney Springs, you must also pay a $100 refundable deposit.
Again, these are available on a first come, first served basis, so if you are needing a Disney World wheelchair, you need to arrive at your location early.
Independent Providers
Numerous independent companies offer stroller, ECV, and wheelchair rentals without the same constraints you’ll experience renting directly from Disney World.
Scooterbug is a Disney Featured Provider, and they offer strollers, ECV, and wheelchairs that can be delivered directly to your Disney Resort Hotel.
There are other companies that offer rentals for these devices. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, we’d recommend connecting with an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner for some recommendations and ideas. They’ll be able to understand your specific needs and help you find the option that best suits your travel party.
